Chapter Seven

Danger watched the two men go into Rascal’s and sighed. He’d done his homework that afternoon and was well aware of what and who he was dealing with and his basic suspicions had been right on the money. He debated actually going inside, just to get the feel of the two men, but knew that kind of fire he wasn’t going to be able to control. He needed to stay focused. He’d heard enough through the city’s grapevine that the bodies of good ole Joe and his wife had already been found. He’d been hoping for another day. Still, maybe the find would put the city on edge. Just like they should be.

Sighing, he shifted on the bike before gazing up at the sky. He was going to have to check in soon enough with the Order and he hadn’t found anything that would matter to them at all. No, they’d see his behavior as reckless, perhaps determining he needed to be pulled of the job, one he was so perfect for. Snarling, he folded his arms. There was so much to think about but the day of researching and planning had been beneficial, at least in his mind.

He held up his wrist and pushed the button for the light, checking the time. Perhaps he’d have an hour to himself, maybe more. Well there was no sense wasting anymore time. If he was going to find what he was looking for as well as carry out revenge, he needed to get to it.

Roaring the engine to life, he swung out of the parking lot without looking back and rolled onto the main road before turning on his headlight. The road had minimal traffic and he rounded the corner, zooming down the straight stretch of road doing seventy. The turn off came quicker than he realized and he almost skidded in the turn. The front wheel shifted back and forth and Danger lost control for a few seconds. When he had the bike going straight, he cursed under his breath.

By the time he made it to the cabin he was pissed off as hell. The damn trip was putting his far too much on the edge. He didn’t like to work with this kind of freaking tension. Jesus. He rolled the bike to a stop on the outskirts of the property. He climbed off and unzipped the container on the back, pulling out the special package and perfect surprise. Smiling at the twinkling stars, he walked the rest of the way. When he tried the handle he laughed softly. There was way too much trust in this cozy town.

Danger entered quietly, listening for any signs someone had remained behind. Hearing nothing, he walked into the living room. Where should he begin searching? First things first. Heading for the kitchen, he stopped short seeing the dog who rose to his feet instantly, growling and snapping. This was a complication but one he could get past. He was very good with dogs.

Ggggrrr…
